As my webinar was coming to a close in about 15 min.; technological difficulties posed a challenge with my power point. Almost simultaneously, I noticed that my Mom was attempting to contact me via home and cell phone to inform me of my grandmothers passing. Honestly, it was just like her to send a "sign"!
This blog entry is a tribute or celebration of her life.
Baba, Polish for grandmother, was one of the original "green" generation. From reusing Christmas gift wrap to milk cartons for storage of her famous soups, she saved & recycled just about anything. Growing up in tough times, her father was killed in a coal mining accident leaving her mother, who spoke little English, with 5 children. Being the oldest, at age 16, her responsibilities for supporting the family were quite a task in the 1930s. I cant imagine the invisible weight she must have felt upon her shoulders.
This may have prepared her for her role as a single parent later on in life when she overcame an unwanted divorce, a rarity for her generation.
Proving resilient to hardship, she would continue to enjoy polka dancing, discussing politics, playing both bingo and the lottery, reading, cooking and supervising!
You may hear me tell the legendary stories ranging from spandex dresses to smuggling 7 UP to her in her room at Rebekah Manor as she was indeed a saucy ball of life, quite mischievous at times :)
Im positive she is dsicussing politics with Tim Russert and laughing with George Carlin.
What a life, what a lady, what a generation to celebrate!
