Playboy Radio Interview: OC Screening Websites
Good news! I should have a link for the audio of the program in a few weeks!
Our discussion was in raising awareness of the link between HPV via oral sex and oral cancer. By the time oral cancer is diagnosed it is in stage 3 or 4; quality of life is diminished and stats prove a 50/50 5 year survival rate.
HPV is an STD and may be dormant for years. Those with a compromised immune system; diabetes, cancer, auto-immune disorders or even a cold are at risk as the virus could become opportunistic.
HPV related oral cancer is usually found on the base of your tongue, tonsil area and throat.
Symptoms include; prolonged hoarseness, earache, lump in throat, red, white or mixed patches that won’t heal, etc.
Communication and awareness are vital between parents, children, teens, partners and dental, medical professions.
In dentistry, we have technology to screen for cellular changes; thus an early detection. Below are websites for various oral cancer screenings you should ask your dentist for;
The solution/rinse is Vizilite   http://zila.com/Products/index.asp
VELscope is the light   http://www.velscope.com/velscope.php
Oral CDx is the brush test   http://www.sopreventable.com/
Another suggestion is to get on website of 1-800-DENTIST as they screen their members and that will assist you in finding a dentist who offers this screening.
