Dog Attack

This past Sunday, I was excercising my furbabies (2 Siberian Huskies, Dakota age 11 and Nahla age 1) along my ususal route within the neighbor hood. We have leash laws in NC, although it seems as though some believe they are exempt from the law for various reasons.

This particular evening, I didn’t have my music playing in my ears for some reason. I did notice a pit bull was not leashed in its yard. It was playing with a young girl until it viewed its prey ~ my dog! As it launched from the yard into the road, it’s focus was on Nahla’s neck. The brawl had both dogs swirling around me when Nahla’s leash wrapped around my ankles causing me to fall hard to the ground.

My other dog, Dakota, along with a friend provided the distraction for me to get up in addition to releasing its grip on Nahla.

My right hand, elbow, knee & hip were badly bruised. Nahla lost some fur, however, her thick coat probably provided protection as well.

Upon filing a report, I found out this attack was not the first.

My challenge is; (1) Over come my anxiety or fear as I have not been able to walk past this house (2) Find some kind of protection for myself and furbabies that is not cumbersome

Today, I took them to the beach for our 3 mile trek. It was a treat to enjoy both the I-pod + excercise all of us without harm!
